AGELESS STYLE: Wardrobe staples for everyone by fashion director

If there is one resounding fashion echo post the pandemic, it’s the enduring need for casual comfort. But not just any casual – we’re talking sporty-style separates with a dressed-up vibe.

Maybe a touch of leopard print, a fluorescent side stripe and, importantly, elastic and drawstrings in all the right places. From joggers to lined weekend jackets that feel like a big hug, these are pieces that most brands offer. I particularly love Scamp & Dude for its feelgood take on print and colour – and, of course, quality.

A white tee might be the most basic item you own, but it’s also one of the most useful. Go for styles that are well cut – you’ll find slightly waisted with a V-neck is the most flattering

Try dressing up printed joggers with a pair of heels and a white shirt and blazer. It’s an effortless look that marries comfort and style

With cold-water swimming jumping to the top of people’s outdoor pleasure pursuits, the dry robe (a waterproof coat with a warm fleece lining) has been adopted by many a fashion editor and looks slick with denim or worn oversized with tailoring and trainers.

Don’t underestimate the power of make-up to elevate a dressed-down look, taking it from gym to ready to go out

Reversible coats and jackets are great multitaskers. Choose a style with a dual colourway, like this one, so you can mix and match it with different elements of your wardrobe.

Try Sosandar’s knitted animal-print joggers, £49, at and’s cord fleece-lined coat, £75.

Look out for organic cotton when buying T-shirts. It’s one small way that you can make a difference in terms of shopping sustainably

Shy away from a bold print, especially in an unexpected colourway. Introduce it gently with more pared-back pieces.
